Navy 5: Old lockers and furniture from one of the Naval Ships in the NBSD Recycling Center reclamation yard. Once the useable items are sorted and sent to the surplus store, the remaining items are scrapped and recycled. There are strict regulations on Construction and Demolition disposal in the city of San Diego. Therefore, many items are required to be recycled. The Department of Defense requirement for the NBSD's waste diversion is 42%; this facility is around 72% diversion from the landfill. They are looking to increase this number through a compost study, the feasibility of thermal condition or anaerobic digestion at NBSD, for the 100-150 tons/day of organic waste from the 3 bases.
