Navy 4: Almost every office item in the Recycling Center, from furniture to staplers, has come from the Navy Surplus Store. All base business surpluses can be taken to this facility where it is weighed and displayed. Personnel from the base can shop for items at their leisure for no cost. It is a great way to keep excess waste out of the landfill and reallocate as necessary. In fiscal year 2011 there was 321,774 lbs. of office furniture received and 429,834 lbs. distributed (prior inventory). This translated to a $24,179 landfill cost offset, $3,041,893 cost offset for new furniture, and $51,167 cost offset for new office supplies.
