Navy 1: ESPN College Gameday broadcasted from the USS San Diego for Veteran's Day 2012. The ESPN Green Team visited the Naval Base San Diego- NBSD Recycling Center for a tour. They have full scale sustainable solid waste program which services all 3 bases in San Diego, around 35,000 people. The program profits approximately 4 million dollars a year, being the Navy's only self-sustaining program. The money is applied to employee salaries, center operations, research toward environmental improvements on base, and the remaining goes to the Naval MWR fund for soldier moral welfare and recreation.
