Tommy Bowden had just been fired as Clemson coach weeks before Swinney took the Tigers to Tallahassee to take on the Bowden family patriarch.
"That was an awkward moment having to go out and meet Coach Bowden as an interim head coach with what had just transpired with his son," Swinney said. "But he's one of the best human beings that has ever been alive in my opinion, and he sent me that picture, signed it, and I've just been so appreciative of that. He's a friend and great role model to me."
