SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Monarchs seek
their first win of the season when they open the season against
the Cleveland Rockers on Saturday. Sacramento features two of the top players in the game, Olympians Ruthie Bolton-Holifield and Yolanda Griffith. Griffith recently led her team in the Italian League to the title on Tuesday and missed all of training camp for the Monarchs. Griffith attended her first practice on Thursday. The team fell, 2-0, to Houston in the first round of the playoffs and finished with a 21-11 record. Cleveland defeated Washington, 69-34, Thursday as Merlakia Jones scored 17 points and Chasity Melvin added 14. The Rockers held the Mystics to a league record low for points scored in a game. The Rockers set a franchise record for fewest baskets allowed as the Mystics managed only 13.
