Marshall wins first game since plane crashSept. 25, 1971: On the 315th day after the most deadly tragedy in college sports history, Marshall gained a measure of closure on this play, "213 bootleg screen." Trailing Xavier 13-9 in the first home game since the plane crash that killed 75 players, coaches and fans the previous year, and with time for just one more play, quarterback Reggie Oliver rolled right and threw back to the left to Terry Gardner. Behind a block from tackle Jack Crabtree, Gardner scored a cathartic touchdown that eventually would become Hollywood screenplay material.
