Steve Fuller to Jerry Butler lands Clemson in Gator BowlNov. 19, 1977: Playing for more than just bragging rights in a bitter rivalry with hated South Carolina, Clemson was looking for a shot at a bowl bid. With 49 seconds left, wide receiver Jerry Butler made an acrobatic, 20-yard touchdown catch on a pass from quarterback Steve Fuller to give Clemson the 31-27 win in Columbia, S.C. It clinched a Gator Bowl bid for the Tigers, which was Clemson's first bowl bid in 18 years.
