Yards to Glory

34. Bootleg Series
Alan Lowry slips past Alabama in Cotton BowlJan. 1, 1973: In what turned out to be the final meeting between coaching giants Bear Bryant and Darrell Royal, Texas quarterback Alan Lowry scored on a 34-yard bootleg with 4:22 to play to beat Alabama 17-13 in the Cotton Bowl. Lowry, playing with tonsillitis, hid the ball on his hip after taking the snap and then hugged the left sideline on his way to the end zone. To this day, Alabama fans insist he stepped out of bounds at the 10.
