2014 NBA playoffs: Miami Heat during the Big Three era

Heat Sign Greg Oden
He was the No. 1 overall pick, beloved in Ohio and had all the potential in the world. No, not LeBron James, but former Trail Blazer Greg Oden, the Ohio State product who went No. 1 -- you remember, just ahead of Kevin Durant in the 2007 draft.
Oden's career was derailed by constant knee injuries, but he was attempting a comeback, and a Heat team in need of size was appropriately intrigued. Spoelstra came away from an Oden summer workout impressed. And after weighing his options, Oden chose Miami, giving the Heat a low-risk, high-reward option in the middle. If he could give the Heat anything in the interior, it would help Miami match up with teams like Indiana. It was a great story, even if we didn't know how Oden's body would respond.
