2011 Preseason All-America Baseball Team

Matt Price
Right-handed pitcher | South CarolinaSucceeding as a closer requires the right mentality as much as it requires power stuff. Price checks both boxes. The redshirt freshman clearly demonstrated the stuff, using a low-90s fastball and 12-to-6 curveball to strike out 83 batters in 55 2/3 innings while allowing 37 hits and 19 walks. Price didn't earn a save in South Carolina's run through the losers' bracket to capture the College World Series but still showed his late-inning steel by gutting through the toughest innings to produce a 2-0, 0.93 record with 15 strikeouts and one walk in 9 2/3 innings that included the final seven outs before the celebratory dogpile ensued.
