2011 Preseason All-America Baseball Team

Deven Marrero
Shortstop | Arizona StateThere are several solid shortstops in the junior class, but Marrero's defensive skill set and offensive upside give the sophomore the edge. Marrero shuffled between short and third as a freshman. It's entertaining to watch Marrero take infield because he makes all the plays and often adds a little flash. Cousins Chris Marrero (Nationals) and Christian Marrero (White Sox) play minor league ball, but questions about Marrero's bat pushed him to the 17th round of the draft coming out of high school. Marrero answered those questions with an exclamation point, hitting .397 to lead his team and set a school freshman record. He also starred in Arizona State's super regional victory against Arkansas, delivering a 12th-inning, game-winning single in Game 1.
