I Am A World Champion: Super Bowl championship quarterbacks

Joe Theismann
Washington Redskins | Super Bowl XVIIAfter playing at Notre Dame, Joe Theismann was headed to the Canadian Football League. Determined to make it to the NFL (he even voluntereed to be a punt returner), Theismann joined the Redskins in 1974. The risk paid off. In 1978, Theismann became the Redskins' starting QB. In 1982, despite a 57-day players' strike that shortened the season from 16 games to nine, Theismann was able to gather his troops and lead the Skins to Super Bowl XVII. Theismann threw for 145 yards and 2 TDs as the Redskins defeated the Dolphins 27-17. The victory made Theismann the first starting QB to win a Super Bowl while wearing a single-digit number.
