Inside Nick Saban's Office - View 2

Saban and Steve Spurrier might be opposites in the way they go about their craft, but they've been the pre-eminent coaching faces of the SEC over the last two decades.

They also both have one of those "Easy" buttons on their desks. Saban's was a gift from the president of Staples after one of the Tide's national championships.

The similarities between the two coaches seemingly end there. Whereas Spurrier's golf clubs are about five feet from his desk, there are no golf clubs to be seen in Saban's office.

"I don't play any golf during the season, man," says Saban, his brow wrinkling. "[Alabama golf coach Jay Seawell tries to get me to go hit balls, and I won't even do that. When does [Spurrier find time to play golf? I don't even have time to do this interview."

For the record, Spurrier says he doesn't hit the links, either, during the season -- only in the offseason.

Saban said he and Spurrier are a lot better friends than people probably realize.

"I really like Steve a lot and his wife, too. We go back to the '80s when he was at Duke," Saban says. "We talked about all kinds of stuff, how we both adopted kids. I've always felt that I know Steve in a completely different way than everybody else because it's not just about football. He's a great coach and does a great job, as good a job as anybody ever has in our profession, but I know him differently than most people."
