Mike Mauti
Linebacker | Penn StateHe wasn't just Penn State's best player; his teammates called him the heart and soul of the defense. Even Bill O'Brien, a coach who often deflected questions about individuals, acknowledged he couldn't say enough about the hard-nosed linebacker. He always seemed to be around the ball, finishing with 96 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles in 11 games. He was the leader of his defense and when he was seriously injured against Indiana, his teammates honored him by wearing his number -- No. 42 -- on their helmets.
