Mike Sanders scores first college TD in Europe

Nov. 20, 1988: Boston College running back Mike Sanders scored on a 53-yard run to open the scoring in his team's 38-24 victory over Army. The significance? It was the first-ever college football game held in Europe, with the two teams competing in the Emerald Isle Classic in Dublin, Ireland. That made Sanders something of a reverse Pilgrim -- a Bostonian sticking his flag through some unsettled land (in this case, the end zone) in the Old Country.
