Wes Welker breaks NCAA punt return recordNov. 1, 2003: Texas Tech's Wes Welker broke an NCAA record with his eighth career punt return for a touchdown, racing 58 yards for a score in the second quarter of the Red Raiders' 26-21 victory over Colorado. Welker, who had 211 all-purpose yards in the game, broke an NCAA record previously shared with Nebraska's Johnny Rodgers, Kansas State's David Allen and Oklahoma's Jack Mitchell.
