I Am A World Champion: Super Bowl championship quarterbacks

Mark Rypien

Washington Redskins | Super Bowl XXVI

Good things come to those who wait. And Mark Rypien waited. For two seasons, the Redskins stashed Rypien -- their 1986 sixth-round draft pick -- on the injured reserved list. Everything would change when he was named a full-time starter in 1989. Using his deep-ball arm of gold, Rypien proved he was no bench-warmer, passing for 3,768 yards with 22 touchdowns for the Skins. He'd only get better in 1991, as he threw for a remarkable 3,564 yards and 28 TDs. The Skins recorded a 14-2 regular season, rolled through the playoffs and put a screeching halt to the Bills' impressive run in Super Bowl XXVI. Passing for 292 yards and two TDs in the 37-24 victory, Rypien was the only choice for MVP.
