New York Jets | Super Bowl IIIBear Bryant described Joe Namath as the greatest athlete he'd ever coached. A three-sport athlete in high school, Namath received a multitude of MLB offers (six, to be exact) but opted to pursue a football career at Alabama instead. In 1964, he led the Crimson Tide to a national championship and in 1965 was the No. 1 pick by the Jets in the AFL draft. Four years later, Broadway Joe and New York were Super Bowl-bound against the heavily favored Colts. Namath was confident the Jets would win, and he guaranteed it to the media. He was right. The Colts' offense self-combusted, and their defense couldn't stop the Namath-to-George Sauer connection. The Super Bowl -- and MVP award -- was Namath's for the keeping.
