A diehard fan of the Cincinnati Reds growing up, Meyer still shakes his head in disbelief that his boyhood idol wanted to spend time with him.
Or that Pete Rose cared enough to pass along some personalized memorabilia, which is proudly displayed back near the family Wall of Fame.
"It humbles you," Meyer said. "I'm like, you've got to be kidding me, and my wife is a huge Pete Rose fan. He's excited to see us, and we're like, 'Wait a minute.' "
The bat with signatures from the entire Big Red Machine is particularly treasured by Meyer, but Rose also sent along an autograph with one of his apologies for betting on baseball scribbled on it.
"It's like a confession," Meyer said. "I don't know if someday I'll have to turn that into the court or something."
