OU Spirit Wind Farm: Nearly a decade ago, OU researchers had the foresight to create the Oklahoma Wind Power Initiative. On September 10, 2008, the University signed an historic agreement with Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company (OG&E) to acquire 100% of its purchased electricity from renewable energy sources by 2013. This commitment is helping OU achieve President Boren's goal of OU becoming carbon neutral by 2020. This project was instrumental in enabling OG&E to build the OU Spirit Wind Farm along with the required transmission lines to the grid in northwestern Oklahoma. The 101 megawatt "OU Spirit" wind farm features 44 2.3 MW turbines. As a result of the agreement, The University of Oklahoma is currently ranked in the top four in the nation by the EPA Green Power Partnership Top 20- College & University. The University of Oklahoma was also honored by the EPA as the 2012 Green Power Partner of the Year.
