2014 NBA Playoffs: Indiana Pacers' path

Larry Legend Leaves
Just weeks after team president Larry Bird is named the NBA's Executive of the Year following the Pacers' turnaround season, which culminated in a second-round playoff appearance, both Bird and general manager David Morway resign on June 27 amid some friction in the front office. Team owner Herb Simon had pressed Bird, who wanted to take time off to deal with some health issues, to accept a pay cut as his contract expired. This is widely believed to be a contributing factor in Bird's decision.
Morway, who has been with the team 13 years, during which he was a finalist for several other GM jobs, eventually joins the Milwaukee Bucks' front office. The Pacers bring back former GM Donnie Walsh to replace Bird as president and promote Kevin Pritchard from director of player personnel to GM.
