2014 NBA Playoffs: Indiana Pacers' path

Bird Back In Biz
Nearly a year to the day he left, Bird agrees to return as team president on June 26. He's refreshed after time way in Florida but back also, in part, because the Sacramento Kings made a run at him to lead their franchise and Simon feels he needs to make a deal to bring Bird back before another team hires him away.
Bird immediately starts making moves, mostly to rework the Pacers' underachieving bench and to retain core players. By mid-July Bird has traded a first-round pick, Miles Plumlee and Gerald Green to the Phoenix Suns for Luis Scola; signs free agent Chris Copeland away from the Knicks to a two-year, $6 million deal; signs free agent C.J. Watson away the from Nets on a two-year, $4 million deal; re-signs David West to a three-year, $36 million deal; and makes a huge commitment to Paul George with a five-year, $90 million extension.
