Have A Seat, Hibbert
After trailing the Atlanta Hawks by 32 points at halftime on April 6, the Pacers lose their seventh game in nine days with a humiliating 107-88 result on their home floor. Vogel pulls all five of his starters less than six minutes into the first quarter and benches Hibbert for the remainder of the game.
When asked why he sat Hibbert, Vogel says: "He's a 7-foot-2 player who has played every game this year, which is very rare. He looks to me to be worn down. He's given good effort, but he looks to me to be worn down. Combine that with the fact that they have a 3-point shooting 5-man most of the game. It's a difficult matchup."
Two weeks later, the Pacers would encounter Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs. True to Vogel's words, the Hawks proved to be a tough matchup for Hibbert again, as he averaged only 5.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in the series.
