We saw a big mismatch in the opening game of the Lanka Premier League as Gladiators spinners applied a stranglehold on the Kings' batters with the chief tormenter being the 41-year-old Mohammad Hafeez who didn't put foot a foot wrong in his amazing spell.
The potent spin attack caused difficulties right from the start of the Kings' innings and the surface proved to be very conducive to spin bowling. The cherry on the top for Gladitators was that the dew didn't spoil the party for the Rajapaksa-led side.
Earlier, Rajapaksa's blazing 56-run-knock coupled with Samit Patel's staggering 42 helped Gladiators put up a par score. Apart from Seales, who returned figures of 3/23, and Theekshana's economical spell, other bowlers leaked plenty of runs. In reply, Kings' innings never really took off as bowlers kept breaking partnerships at regular intervals and no batter stepped up to the plate
