Results MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Pole-sitter Jeff Green outlasted Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the final laps and won Sunday's NASCAR Busch Grand National series Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Green took the checkered flag for the third time this season, edging Earnhardt by 0.675 seconds in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for his fourth career victory and third this season. Earnhardt, the series points leader, first took the lead on lap 208 of the 250-lap race. He extended his lead in the standings to 156 points over Matt Kenseth with two races remaining. Kenseth had mechanical problems and finished 21st. Green, a longshot to win the Busch series title, is 210 points behind Earnhardt, who also drove a Chevrolet to his 16th top-five finish of the season. Elton Sawyer, Todd Bodine and rookie Adam Petty rounded out the top five. "It wasn't much I could do to hold him (Green) up," Earnhardt "We'll take it, the 156 points." As Busch series regulars, Earnhardt leads with six wins and is followed by Kenseth with four and Green. Winston Cup regular Mark Martin also has six wins but is not included in the series standings. Dick Trickle, Mike McLaughlin, Kevin Grubb, Tim Fedewa and Lyndon Amick completed the top 10. Fedewa had the only Pontiac in the top 19 and Sawyer drove the only Ford in the top 10. The race was the first Busch series visit to the ¾-mile Memphis Motorsports Park. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck series has held races here each of the last two years. The Outback Steakhouse 200, the penultimate race of the season, is next Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway. |
