Padres bring up Gonzalez's brother, Edgar

CHICAGO -- Infielder Edgar Gonzalez joined his younger brother, Adrian, on the San Diego Padres on Monday when they purchased his contract from Triple-A Portland.

To make room, the Padres designated infielder Callix Crabbe for assignment.

Gonzalez was invited to spring training with the big league club before being reassigned to minor league camp on March 18. He hit .293 with four home runs and 12 RBIs for Portland. He played first base, second base, third base, left field, right field and designated hitter.

Crabbe made his big league debut and appeared in 21 games for the Padres this season, including six starts and nine pinch-hit appearances. He hit .176 with two RBIs.
