Rice band director apologizes for routine

TULSA, Okla. -- The band director at Rice University is
apologizing for the halftime show during the Rice-Tulsa football
game that made fun Tulsa coach Todd Graham.

Graham left Rice after one year as head coach to take over at
Tulsa.

The show featured the band acting as if it was searching for
Tulsa coach Todd Graham through nine circles of hell based on
Dante's "Divine Comedy."

It ended by saying Graham could be found beyond the deepest
level of hell behind a door marked "Welcome To Tulsa" and calling
him an offensive name over the public address system.

Tulsa has filed a complaint over the performance with Conference
USA.

Now Rice band director Chuck Throckmorton says the intent was to
be funny not to be mean or insulting and he apologizes.
