Jhamar Youngblood leads Monmouth past Wichita St. 59-50

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Jhamar Youngblood
scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Monmouth to a
59-50 victory over Wichita State on Saturday night at the Paradise
Jam.

Youngblood scored nine of his points during a 16-2 run that put
the Hawks ahead 40-33 with 8:08 left.

Monmouth (1-3), which suffered a 76-33 loss to Notre Dame in the
first round of the tournament a day earlier, also got 17 points
from Whitney Coleman and nine from Alex Nunner.

Gal Meker led Wichita State (1-2) with 17 points and Phillip
Thomasson added 16.

The Shockers jumped out to a 12-2 lead on a driving layup by
Matt Braeuer with 13:05 to play in the first half.

But Monmouth rallied to tie the game at 18 when Alex Nunner
found Whitney Coleman for a layup in heavy traffic with 1:50 to go
before halftime.

The Hawks opened the second half by taking their first lead on a
3-pointer by Youngblood that put them ahead 23-22.

After the Hawks' big run, the Shockers rallied to cut the
deficit to 42-40 on a layup by Thomasson with 4:18 to play but
could not get any closer.
