Rockies put Taveras on DL, recall Ramirez

SAN DIEGO -- The Colorado Rockies placed outfielder Willy
Taveras on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, recalled
right-hander Ramon Ramirez from the minors and acquired
right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz from Minnesota in exchange for
minor league infielder Matt Macri.

Rockies manager Clint Hurdle on Tuesday night announced the move
involving Taveras, who had left the game against the San Diego
Padres with a strained right groin in the fourth inning. He has
been fighting the injury for the past few weeks and aggravated it
beating out an infield single in the first.

Taveras is batting .311 with two home runs and 22 RBIs in 91
games. He leads the majors with 49 infield hits.

Ramirez, recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs, is in his
third stint this season with the Rockies. He is 2-2 with an 8.32
ERA in 21 relief appearances with the Rockies.

Ortiz was 3-4 with a 5.14 ERA in 10 starts this season for the
Twins, and has a 4-4 overall record in 28 games. He made his last
start on May 26.

Macri, 25, was a fifth round pick in the 2004 June draft and has
a .285 average in his minor league career. He has split the last
season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Colorado Springs.
