Shaky offensive line hindering Andrew Luck's ascension

NFL, Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck is going to be great. Maybe even the greatest in the NFL some day. But right now, he is a little overrated.

To me, Aaron Rodgers stands alone as the game's best quarterback. Behind Rodgers, I rank Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger. Then there is a gap to whoever is No. 4.

But it is common to see Luck's name right there with these three presumptive Hall of Famers, all of whom are playing at an extremely high level right now. He just doesn't yet belong in that truly elite category.

That isn't to say Luck might not be fourth. There certainly could be an argument for that, although I would lean toward Philip Rivers at No. 4. The point is, Luck isn't quite at the level where many think he is. And making matters much worse: The Indianapolis Colts' offensive line remains offensive, as it has been for pretty much Luck's entire NFL career.

In his past 10 games, Luck has really struggled from a statistical standpoint. During the first nine games of the 2014 season, he was sensational, but he has had a tough time since. Luck recently turned 26 and is obviously far beyond the typical learning curve. His attributes, both physical and mental, are truly elite. And as he has shown time and again, if anyone can make up for a poor offensive line, it is someone with Luck's immense skill set.
