BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Lashinda Winters hit the game-winning
shot with 8.5 seconds remaining Friday night as Stephen F. Austin
upset (unranked ESPN/USA Today, No. 24 AP) Xavier 73-72 in a women's NCAA tournament East regional game.
Winters, a 5-foot-3 sophomore guard, came off the bench to score
15 points. None were bigger than her layup that bounced around the
rim several times before dropping through to give 11th-seeded
Stephen F. Austin (28-3) the victory.

A 3-point attempt by Nicole Levandusky, who had five 3-pointers
in the game, bounced off the back of the rim with 1.5 seconds
remaining for Xavier (26-5).
Xavier led 68-56 with 5:50 to play, but Stephen F. Austin
outscored the Lady Musketeers 17-4 the rest of the way.
Stephanie Whitmore, who had 20 points, scored seven in the final
5:02 to key Stephen F. Austin's comeback. Her 3-pointer from the
top of the key with 40.2 seconds remaining cut Xavier's lead to
72-71. Winters got a chance when Shawnta Johnson came up with a
steal on the defensive end of the floor for the Lady Jacks.
Johnson scored 14 points for Stephen F. Austin and Tami Rater
added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Jennifer Phillips, who missed two free throws with 59.9 seconds
to play with Xavier in front 72-68, worked inside for 19 points and
Levandusky scored 17 points. Amy Waugh chipped in with 11 points
and Kim Hotz finished with 10.
