Boise State Nabs Sixth Pac-10 Title

On paper, it looked as though Boise State would run away with the Pac-10 title Sunday in Corvallis, Oregon. However, the host Oregon State Beavers made things a lot tighter than expected down the stretch for the sixth-ranked Broncos, but with four individual champions, Boise State nudged aside the 2010 champs, 147.0-137.5.

The win is Boise State's sixth Pac-10 championship in program history. Being led by strong performances from some of its leaders, the Broncos major concern was actually the health of 2010 NCAA finalist Kirk Smith (184).

Smith injured his leg a few weeks ago, and his status on how healthy he would be was uncertain throughout he days leading up to th tournament. Smtih, seeded No. 1 at 184, fell in his semifinal match before medically forfeiting the rest of the tournament.

Boise State did notch titles four weights from No. 2 Andrew Hochstrasser (133), No. 6 Jason Chamberlain (149), No. 2 Adam Hall (157) and Kurt Swartz (165).

Oregon State stayed in the championship mix with individual crowns from No. 5 Colby Covington (174) and No. 20 Clayton Jack (HWT). The Beavers also had four runner up finishers that could have swung the tournament in the team's favor with a win.

Rounding out the other individual winners were No. 2 Anthony Robles of Arizona State (125), No. 5 Boris Novachkov from Cal Poly (141), Jake Meredith of Arizona State (184) and No. 12 Zack Giesen from Stanford (197).

NCAA qualifiers will now break for a few weeks before heading to Philadelphia, Penn. for the national championships March 17-19.
