Points leagues breakdown: Not in love with the shape of Yu

Yu Darvish is among the best pitchers in terms of the ESPN Player Rater, so why isn't he ranked higher in the rest-of-season points league rankings? Steve Nurenberg/Icon Sportswire

For the past few weeks, I've been focusing a lot more on pitchers than hitters with my advice, which shouldn't be all that surprising, since in standard leagues, that one position on the field is likely to make up around 40 percent of your starting lineup.

I promise I'll take a look at hitters next week, but given the amount of questions I've received regarding one pitcher ranking in particular, I thought I'd do a deep dive into explaining my rationale for it. Apparently, with apologies to singer Ed Sheeran as well as fantasy owners everywhere, I'm not in love with the shape of Yu.

Yes, taking a look at last week's rest-of-season rankings of my colleagues and I, there's a glaring disparity when it comes to Yu Darvish. For rotisserie leagues, Eric Karabell has him ranked as the No. 9 SP and No. 42 overall. In head-to-head categories, Tristan H. Cockcroft sees him even higher: the No. 6 SP and No. 28 overall. But for points leagues, I had Darvish at No. 35 among his SP peers, and No. 221 overall. So, what gives? Dies the format make that much of a difference?
