Davidi Kitai wins third bracelet

Poker

Another year, another bracelet for Davidi Kitai. Kitai won his first bracelet in 2008 and his second in 2012, both in pot-limit hold 'em. This time around the Belgian pro defeated a field of 810 in the six-handed no-limit event to win $508,640 and his third WSOP bracelet. Kitai is a triple crown winner, a victory on the WPT, EPT and WSOP and with over $4.9 million in tournament winnings, the all-time money leader on the Belgian money list.

"It's very good for me to win not just for Belgium, but for France, too," Kitai said to the WSOP. "I have hundreds of followers and everyone was texting me and posting nice things. It is nice when you know the people back home are watching."

The final table, broadcast on WSOP.com featured a strong heads-up battle between Las Vegas professional Gordon Vayo which concluded on an unscheduled fourth day. Vayo held a slight chip lead to start that final day, but Kitai grabbed the lead almost immediately and coasted from that point on.

Kitai gave an assist to the win to those watching from afar and some unplanned scheduling.

"During the breaks I had some of my friends watching and seeing how (Vayo) played and then I made adjustments," he said. "He got really tough heads-up, and after we took the break for the night last night, I was able to watch and see his hand ranges. That was really important to me."

Vayo finished fourth in this event two years ago and has 16 career WSOP cashes. All-time WSOP bracelet leader Phil Hellmuth finished eighth. This was his second cash of the series, just days removed from a runner-up finish in Event 7.
