Take Justin Bonomo off 'The List'

Poker

Event 5 ended just a few days ago and Justin Bonomo left the Amazon Room with doubts in his mind after earning his third runner-up finish on the WSOP felt. He still was one of the top names on the "Best without a bracelet" list, but that's not where he wanted to be. He took to Twitter...

Three days after posting that, Bonomo walked down the aisle last, finally winning the bracelet that had eluded him in his previous 26 in-the-money finishes. His two big finishes have also given him the early lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race.

"After coming in second again the other day, I started thinking that maybe I shouldn't worry so much about winning the bracelet and just concentrate on the money," Bonomo said to the WSOP. "But then to have this actually happen, I see how important it is. It feels incredible."

The no-limit six-handed Event 11 featured a strong field of 1,587 and resulted in a final table filled with elite talent. The final six were reduced to two rather quickly, but Bonomo and his opponent Mike Sowers were in no rush from that point on. The two engaged in a back-and-forth 99-hand match that featured numerous all-ins and apparently a double dose of alligator blood. The standout moment during that session was the six consecutive double-ups for Sowers after being reduced to just a few chips. Ultimately, Sowers' luck ran out and Bonomo was flanked by his friends to celebrate a long-awaited accomplishment.

While the story that will be told time and time again from this event is about Bonomo, Sowers deserves plenty of attention as well. This was his second runner-up finish in his WSOP career and fifth final table. If we return back to the discussion about the list that no player wants to be on, Sowers must be close to the top.

The final table also included Daniel Strelitz and bracelet winner Taylor Paur.

Other notable finishers include Amono Filippi (22nd), Noah Schwartz (35th) and former November Niner Russell Thomas (39th).
