HOUSTON -- Pete Sampras on Friday responded to recent comments from two-time Grand Slam champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov, who said he should retire.
"When I first heard it I was offended, but I've always said that I'm going to stop on my own terms, not when someone thinks I should or how I should go out," Sampras told Houston television station KRIV.
Last week, Kafelnikov suggested that Sampras should retire after losing to Spain's Alex Corretja at the Davis Cup in Houston.
Earlier this week, Sampras agreed to return to Houston for the U.S. Clay Court Championship, which starts April 21. |
