MELBOURNE, Australia -- The round of 16 is where the experienced players start to pull their game together. Look for Jennifer Capriati to take the top half.

Going into the fourth round the trainer said Venus Williams was doing better with her knee. It certainly showed in her 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Magdalena Maleeva. She starting to look like the heavy favorite again, although she has the toughest draw.

Martina Hingis has the best draw through the semifinals.

This might be the battle of the fittest with the strongest winning this tournament. Last year, that was certainly Capriati.

Fourth-round picks
Jennifer Capriati (1), United States, vs. Rita Grande (20), Italy
Grande is a nice player with no big weapons. Capriati will start to step it up a little here.
Pick: Capriati

Amelie Mauresmo (7), France, vs. Marlene Weingartner, Germany
Weingartner is slowly making her way upward in the rankings. She's not seeded here, but Mauresmo on this Rebound Ace surface will win.
Pick: Mauresmo

Kim Clijsters (4), Belgium, vs. Janette Husarova, Slovakia
Clijsters has not been tested so far in this tournament. Her arm is sore, but she didn't get chicken pox so it's a good tournament for her. She needs to start playing cleaner matches with fewer unforced errors because so far she hasn't faced tough opponents.
Pick: Clijsters

Elena Dementieva (12), Russia vs. Justine Henin (6), Belgium
This is the best of the fourth-round matches. Dementieva, after a weak 2001 following her strong 2000, is showing signs of getting back on track. This is a toss-up, but Justine Henin is seeded higher.
Pick: Henin
