FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- David Carson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as IPFW beat Southern Utah 69-52 Saturday in the Summit League.
Jakari Johnson scored 17 points, including 3-of-6 3-point shooting, and Dellvez Yearby had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mastodons (13-16, 8-10), who shot 52 percent from the field.
The Thunderbirds (10-19, 8-10) shot just 38 percent from the field. Tyler Quinney had 14 points and Davis Baker 13. John Clifford grabbed 10 rebounds.
Southern Utah went 5-of-7 from the free-throw line, while IPFW shot 11-of-17.
Leading 32-23 at the break, IPFW opened the second half with a 17-7 run capped by a Johnson 3-pointer that gave the Mastodons a 19-point margin with 13:46 left. The Thunderbirds got no closer than 13 after that.
