Seton Hall 91, St. John's 81

NEWARK, N.J. -- Jeremy Hazell paced a balanced scoring attack with 31 points -- the sixth time this season he has eclipsed 30 points in a game -- leading Seton Hall to a 91-81 victory over St. John's Thursday night.

The win was the third straight for Seton Hall (12-9, 3-6 Big East), all coming at home.

The Pirates went ahead for good in the early stages of the first half, going on an 18-2 run to take a 24-9 lead with 11:55 remaining. Eugene Harvey, who finished with 20 points, had six points during that stretch and Robert Mitchell added five.

The Red Storm (12-10, 3-7) cut the lead to 12 at 40-28 with 4:15 remaining on a 3-pointer from Paris Horne, but Seton Hall held a 45-29 lead at halftime.

In the second half, St. John's drew within seven at 81-74 with 1:16 left on two free throws from D.J. Kennedy, but Seton Hall held off the late charge to claim the victory.

Horne had 21 points for the Red Storm, and Kennedy finished with 20.
