Ohio star set to resume official visits

One of the top uncommitted players in the state of Ohio, defensive end Davon Custis (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales), will soon resume his official visits. The Stallions lost in the state semi-finals over the weekend to finish with a 13-1 record.

The 6-foot-5 and 220-pound Custis made official visits to Boston College and Wisconsin in September and October respectively. With his senior football season over he will resume his trips in December. Custis will visit Northwestern Dec. 5, Notre Dame Dec. 12 and Stanford Jan. 9.

"Right now Boston College is my favorite," Custis said. "I have three things I'm looking for, academics, a good football team and a fun social life. I thought Boston College fit most of those things great."

Paterno hoping to add wide receiver

Joe Paterno is going to need some replacements for a talented group of wide receivers that are in their final season for Penn State, including Derrick Williams. Paterno currently has commitments from three wide receivers, Brandon Felder (Oxon Hill, Md.), Devon Smith (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) and Christian Kuntz (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity).

The Nittany Lions' boss is hoping to add at least one more receiver to the class and a key target was in State College on Saturday and saw Penn State dismantle Michigan State and clinch a Rose Bowl birth.

Wide receiver Justin Brown (Wilmington, De./Concord) has been to Penn State at least a half dozen times including his latest trip. It might have been old hat to Brown, but he still came away impressed.

"I enjoyed the environment," Brown said. "The students were going crazy. It's a great environment to play in."

Brown will make at least one more trip back to State College when he makes his official visit to Penn State the weekend of Jan. 23. Brown also plans to make an official visit to Boston College and is considering Rutgers, Oregon, South Carolina and North Carolina State for his other trips.
