Injury sidelines Hokies' Thompson for 4 to 6 weeks

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech forward J.T. Thompson is expected to miss four to six weeks of the season after suffering a hernia.

Surgery was scheduled for Friday at Montgomery Regional Hospital. The team said the injury was diagnosed Wednesday.

Virginia Tech hosts Gardner-Webb in the Hokies' season opener on Friday.
