Tennis will form panel to deal with gambling

The four governing bodies of tennis plan to create an independent integrity panel to deal with gambling and other issues in the sport,
Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Chairman and CEO Larry Scott said in a news conference Saturday from Wimbledon.

Scott said the panel and its membership, which will be decided by the WTA, ATP, Grand Slams and ITF, will be announced after Wimbledon.

Scott also said the WTA board has approved suspensions for players who do not appear at the tour's most significant events or do marketing for the tournament in lieu of competing. The Williams sisters, who refuse to play the Indian Wells event, could be suspended for two 2010 events if they don't play or participate in marketing efforts for the 2009 Indian Wells event.
