Bolt, Powell easily advance at Jamaica track and field championships

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Sprint stars Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Veronica Campbell-Brown easily advanced Friday in the Jamaica national track and field Championships.

Powell, the former world record-holder at 9.74 seconds, was the most impressive in the first round at the National Stadium, running a season-best 9.90 seconds

In heat one, Bolt, who ran 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York last month to erase Powell's record, was comfortable with a 10.19.

"I am comfortable with the time. It feels good," Bolt said. "The aim is just to quality for Beijing, so I am just taking it round by round."

In the women's 100, Kerron Stewart had the fastest time, finishing in 10.99.

Campbell-Brown also won her heat in 11.28.

Both 100 finals are set for Saturday.

Kenia Sinclair (2:02.87) led the qualifiers in the women s 800, while Isa Phillips (48.78) topped the 400 hurdlers going into the final.
