Detroit won the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in 11 seasons and 11th time overall after holding off Pittsburgh 3-2 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals on Wednesday night. The Red Wings have the third most titles in NHL history, trailing fellow Original Six clubs Montreal (23) and Toronto (13).

Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom became the first European captain of a Stanley Cup champion after the Red Wings beat Pittsburgh 3-2 in Game 6 on Wednesday night. Fellow Swede Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and assist on Wednesday and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. He finished the postseason with 13 goals and 27 points, which tied him with Penguins captain Sidney Crosby for tops in the league.
ROAD WARRIORS
Detroit wrapped up its fourth straight series on the road in these playoffs after beating Pittsburgh 3-2 on Wednesday night to win its 11th Stanley Cup in team history. In the Western Conference finals, the Red Wings lost Game 5 at home before eliminating the Stars in Dallas two nights later.
HIGH FIVE
Kris Draper, Tomas Holmstrom, Nicklas Lidstrom, Kirk Maltby and Darren McCarty are the only players to win four Stanley Cups with Detroit since 1997. McCarty didn't sign with the Red Wings this season until Feb. 25.

Dallas Drake became a Stanley Cup champion for the first time in 15 NHL seasons after Detroit beat Pittsburgh 3-2 in Game 6 on Wednesday night. Drake, who began his career with the Red Wings in 1992-93, played in 1,009 regular-season games and 90 playoff contests.
DECADE-LONG WAIT
Detroit's Chris Osgood joined Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk, a former Red Wing, as the only goaltenders in NHL history to hoist the Stanley Cup at least 10 years apart. Sawchuk won titles in 1955 and 1967 and Osgood was Detroit's No. 1 goalie in 1998.
PLAYING WITH PAIN
Pittsburgh's Ryan Malone was cleared to play in Game 6 on Wednesday night after X-rays detected no damage other than the broken nose caused when he was struck by teammate Hal Gill's slap shot in Game 5 on Monday night.
WE'RE WATCHING
Television ratings for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals more than doubled from last year. Pittsburgh's triple-overtime win over Detroit on Monday earned a 3.8 national rating and a 7 share on NBC, the network said Wednesday. That's up 111 percent from last season's Game 5 between Anaheim and Ottawa, which drew a 1.8. It was the highest-rated Game 5 since 2002, when Carolina-Detroit earned a 4.2.

Carolina signed right wing Patrick Eaves to a three-year contract. The Hurricanes announced Wednesday they locked up the forward in a deal worth about $1.4 million each year. Eaves came to Carolina from Ottawa last February in the deal that sent Mike Commodore and Cory Stillman to the Senators.
BAD BOY
William "Boots" Del Biaggio III, a prominent Silicon Valley financier, has been accused of defrauding a bank to secure a $10 million loan that he used to buy an ownership stake in the Nashville Predators. Del Biaggio was sued this week in Santa Clara County Superior Court by Modern Bank, a New York-based private bank that counts former NFL star Joe Montana as a vice chairman. The suit claims the accounts were then passed off to Modern Bank as Del Biaggio's. The deception was uncovered only when he stopped supplying the required monthly account statements that were part of his contract with the bank, the lawsuit said.
