Owings leaves games with ankle injury

SAN DIEGO -- Arizona Diamondbacks starter Micah Owings left Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres with a sprained ankle in the sixth inning.

Owings had doubled down the right-field line, his third hit of the game, and was pulling into second base when his right leg buckled as he stepped onto the base with his right foot. Owings fell off the bag before he retouched the base and called time.

The Diamondbacks' ace right-hander sat on the infield dirt for a couple of minutes before he limped off the field.

Owings was replaced by reliever Brandon Medders.
