Tigers designate right-hander Bazardo, recall left-hander Rapada

CHICAGO -- The Detroit Tigers on Friday recalled left-hander Clay Rapada from Triple-A Toledo and designated right-hander Yorman Bazardo for assignment.

Bazardo appeared in three games with the Tigers -- who were 1-8 before Friday's game against the White Sox -- and gave up eight runs in three innings.

Rapada gives manager Jim Leyland another option out of the bullpen.

"They said he was the closest to helping us," Leyland said of Rapada, who relies on breaking balls and off-speed pitches.

"Different looks are good," Leyland said. "He's still got to get people out. I hope we can use him against some righties."
