The New England Patriots re-signed veteran wide receiver Jabar Gaffney on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Gaffney played four seasons with the Houston Texans before he signed with the Patriots as a free agent in October 2006.
Last season, he played in 16 games with seven starts and caught 36 passes for 449 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.
In his career, he has caught 218 passes for 2,600 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Coach Bill Belichick said Gaffney is a good fit for the Patriots' offense, calling him a versatile and dependable player.
The Patriots also reached agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent safety Tank Williams on Wednesday, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He played for the Vikings last season, appearing in 13 games with two starts.

The Oakland Raiders made a flurry of moves on Wednesday, announcing they officially signed former Pro Bowl receiver Javon Walker and free-agent offensive tackle Kwame Harris.
Oakland also has renegotiated running back Dominic Rhodes' contract this week, securing his return for next season. Rhodes was due a $2 million roster bonus on Friday, but agreed to restructure his deal.
Rhodes signed as a free agent last year after helping Indianapolis win the Super Bowl. He was suspended for the first four games last season and played sparingly until Justin Fargas went down with a knee injury late in the year. Rhodes ran for 237 yards the last two games of the season and is expected to share the load with Fargas next season.
The Raiders also needed help at tackle after cutting last year's starting left tackle Barry Sims. They also re-signed free agent Cornell Green later Wednesday. Green started at right tackle for most of last season.

Detroit signed Buccaneers safety Kalvin Pearson to a three-year, $3.5 million restricted free agent offer sheet. The deal has a $1.1 million signing bonus. Because he wasn't drafted and the Bucs gave him the low $927,000 restricted tender offer, the Lions don't have to give a draft choice if they get him.
Once presented with the offer sheet, the Bucs have seven days to match.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Pearson will have a chance to compete for a starting job, but if not, he is expected to get significant playing time in the nickel.
The Lions also re-signed running back Aveion Cason and signed free-agent guard Corey Hulsey to one-year contracts.

Free-agent linebacker Matt McCoy signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McCoy spent the last three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints, starting 10 of 30 games. He entered the league as a second-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2005.
