Weiss (flu) misses Panthers-Canadiens game

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Already without injured forward Richard
Zednik, the Florida Panthers were without center Stephen Weiss for
their game Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadiens.

Weiss has been battling the flu for the past few days, coach
Jacques Martin said, and his absence forced Florida -- which was
missing two of its top five scorers Wednesday -- to further juggle
its lines.

Zednik was seriously injured when teammate Olli Jokinen's skate
pierced his neck in Buffalo on Sunday night, and the 32-year-old
forward remained hospitalized Wednesday in good condition. Rob
Globke was summoned from Rochester of the American Hockey League to
fill Zednik's spot.

Rookie left wing Stefan Meyer was called up from Rochester on
Wednesday to replace Weiss, whose availability for Florida's game
with Washington on Friday night is unknown.

Weiss has 10 goals and 23 assists this season. Zednik had 15
goals and 11 assists, including six goals in his previous five
games before the injury.
