Grambling St. 79, Southern U. 76

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) -- Andre Ratliff scored 30 points and Duran Diaz added 12, including a go-ahead 3-pointer and game-ending free throws, as Grambling State defeated Southern University in overtime Saturday, 79-76.

The game was tight throughout, and Grambling (5-12, 5-5 SWAC), was able to overcome 17 turnovers to secure the win.

Chris Davis led Southern (8-13, 6-4 SWAC) with 33 points and four steals. Only one of his teammates, Steffon Wiley, scored in the double digits; Wiley had 12.

The game was tied at 68 heading into overtime, and Southern scored first, with 3:31 left, on a layup by Wiley. But Southern missed its next three shots and Grambling pulled ahead on a Ratliff 3 and free throw that put Grambling up 72-70.

The teams tied twice more, and Southern went up, 76-74, with 43 seconds left before the Diaz 3-pointer. Diaz followed that with two free throws with 3 seconds left, putting Grambling up, 79-76.

Davis, who was 5 for 11 in 3-pointers during the game, was unsuccessful in one last attempt as time ran out.
