Johnson' bank shot sends UMBC past Binghamton, 63-59

CATONSVILLE, Md. -- Cavell Johnson scored 13 points,
including a decisive short bank shot with 1:25 left, and
Maryland-Baltimore County extended its winning streak to a
season-high five games Saturday with a 63-59 triumph over
Binghamton.

Darryl Proctor had 12 points and seven rebounds, Jay Greene
added 11 points and Justin Fry and Ray Barbosa had 10 apiece for
the Retrievers (17-7, 9-2 America East).

Reggie Fuller led Binghamton (10-13, 6-5) with 19 points and 12
rebounds. Dwayne Jackson scored 13 points for the Bearcats, who
have lost three straight after a five-game winning streak.

UMBC has won nine of 11 overall, and with five regular-season
games remaining the Retrievers are within three victories of their
single-season record for wins, 20 set in 2001-02.

The Retrievers squandered a 20-point, second-half lead, allowing
Binghamton a 9-0 run, capped by a game-tying 3-pointer from the
left side by Chretien Lukusa that made it 59-all with 2:01
remaining.

Proctor missed on an inside move on UMBC's next possession, but
Johnson banked in the rebound from the right side for a 61-59 lead
with 1:25 left.

After Proctor failed on the front end of a one-and-one with 39.3
seconds to go, Greene made two foul shots with 13.1 seconds left
for a four-point cushion.

UMBC won its third straight game without leading scorer Brian
Hodges, who remains sidelined indefinitely with a left ankle
injury.
